Coworking in Medellin

If cafés aren’t your thing and you prefer coworking spaces, there are a million different space for coworking in Medellin. I personally prefer working at cafes because I love coffee, but here are some options for co-working spaces if you want a more traditional co-working environment or need to book out meeting rooms for your teams. For many coworking spaces in Medellin, you have to pay a day fee. If you find that you might come to one of these places often, you can buy a membership pass which will bring the daily fee down which I highly recommend! 👇

Cafes Medellin: How to decide?

Ever since high school, I’ve been a coffee shop worker. There’s just something about sitting in a public place with other people around you all working on their own stuff. I think it helps with my productivity and keeps me motivated using “body-doubling” to help with my attention problems.

Now that I have a few different remote jobs, finding the perfect work spot has been essential to my productivity and success. Luckily, Medellin has an insane number of coffee shops and coworking spaces to get work done.

You may be wondering how I decided this list. Well, I went to every single one of these cafes to try out the ambiance, quality of coffee, comfort of seats, availability of outlets, reliability of wifi and more!

Best Cafes Medellin: My Top 5 Spots to Get Work Done

Here are my top 5 best coffee shops to get work done in the Medellin popular El Poblado neighborhood:

1. Pergamino Medellin Calle 10b: Best Overall

Pergamino Medellin is probably the most famous coffee shop/cafe in Medellin. They have many locations throughout the city, and each is pretty great at supporting remote work. The specific location in El Poblado Calle 10b is my top pick because it is a bigger 2 story building with many tables and plenty of outlets. It can get busy at times, but I’ve never had a problem getting a nice table with enough space for me to spread out. There are only outlets at the bars: four two socket outlets on the first floor and six two socket outlets on the second floor.

2. Café Velvet: Best for Quiet Space and Comfortable Seating

Located on the same street as the other Pergamino in El Poblado, Café Velvet is a lowkey shop that has some outdoor seating near the front, then opens up to a spacious seating arrangement with both tables and couches in the back. From my experience, Cafe Velvet seems to get a lot less traffic than Pergamino, so if you want to ensure that you have a table, this place might be for you. I ranked this as second in my best cafes in Medellin list because I didn’t love the coffee as much as Pergamino, and frankly it was a little too quiet for me. I’m someone that works better in environments where there is ambient noise in the background. Also, they don’t have many outlets. When I was working there, some dudes sitting next to me shared the one outlet at the end of the couch and walked around looking for another one and couldn’t find anything. I think there was one other outlet spot but I can’t be sure. If Pergamino is too crowded for your liking and you are not in need of a charge, then Café Velvet is a great option!

3. Hija Mia: Best for a fantastic cup of coffee

Similar to Pergamino, Hija Mia has many locations throughout the city. There are two in El Poblado. A very small hole in the wall on the corner of Calle 11A Carrera 43b and a bigger one down the street. If you are into coffee, Hija Mia has really really great quality espresso drinks. Also, the bigger shop in the heart of Manilla had plenty of tables both inside and around their wraparound patio. I did some work at the smaller location on Calle 11A and thought it was a great location because it wasn’t too busy. There were outlets underneath the couches inside and the wifi was reliable. I ranked this below Cafe Velvet and Pergamino simply because I prefer bigger cafes, but wouldn’t mind working at Hija Mia again if the other two aren’t an option! It is still very much worthy of being in my best cafes in Medellin list!

4. Campesino Café: Best for outdoor seating and nice aesthetics

I liked this cafe a lot. The aesthetics were on point with deep green accent colors and many plants surrounding the patio. The coffee was good, and they had plenty of options. There aren’t as many seats inside as there are on their covered patio, so you will probably end up sitting there. In my opinion, the seats aren’t as comfortable as the options at Pergamino and Cafe Velvet, and it looked like there weren’t any outlets since the seats are all located outside. Either way, the Wifi was reliable and it wasn’t too busy. Choose Campesino Cafe if you want to work outside on a nice day!

5. Urbaina Cafe: Best for a lowkey space with nice service and good food

A small cafe a block away from Campesino, Urbaina Cafe had a nice atmosphere. The servers were really nice, which stood out to me because I feel like the others just had okay service since they get so much traffic. There are outlets around the inside seating space of the cafe and the wifi was good. The seats were okay, the But I ordered an Iced Matcha Latte and I DID NOT like it. It seemed like it was made from older matcha and the taste just wasn’t it for me. On the other hand, it looked like their food options were really nice! I wish I ordered food myself and tried it out. If I go back here, I would definitely get a coffee drink and maybe it would change my opinion. There are also a few locations around town.

Cafes in Laureles, Medellin

Although this is a guide to the best cafes to work at in El Poblado, I would be remiss to not mention Laureles! A more laid-back version of El Poblado, Laureles has numerous cafes that are great to work at. I’ve explored these as workspaces less than the ones in El Poblado, but have grabbed a cup of coffee from a few. Based on other blogs and reviews on google, here are some great cafe options in Laureles:

  • Semillla Cafe – if you are looking for a “real” spot for coworking in Medellin
  • Delmuri Cafe – quite small but good coffee
  • Rituales Cafe – great decor and nice tables to work but gets busy QUICK
