Milos has the most stunning beaches of any island we visited during our Greek island-hopping trip. The coastal rock formations in some parts of the island are out-of-this-world beautiful. You don’t want to miss the beaches, caves, and coves of Milos, trust us. The other great thing about Milos is that the island is pretty small, so you don’t have to do too much driving. No matter where you choose to stay, you can be at the top spots in less than half an hour – which is certainly not the case for some of the other Greek islands that we visited. (thinking of you, Rhodes!)

Come to Milos to swim … a lot. 🏊♀️ Swim in caves. Swim in coves. Jump off cliffs. And spend a day on a boat exploring. Prepare to be salty, as the water of the Aegean is loaded with salt. While Milos is definitely not the island for authentic Greek culture, it certainly is the best island we have encountered for exploring unbelievable beaches and coastline.

Here are our top things to do in Milos ⬇️
1 – Visit Sarakiniko “Beach”
I say Sarakiniko “Beach”, but really Sarakiniko is a series of massive rocks that will make you feel like you’re on the moon. Part of the experience at Sarakiniko is walking up and down the rocks and appreciating the stunning views at sunrise and sunset.
This is THE spot for cliff jumping on Milos.
We came here the first time at around 11 AM on a Saturday and immediately turned around to visit the Papafragas Caves. There were just WAY too many people here. We came back at sunset around 7:45 PM and almost all the people were gone. This place gets really crowded with tourists during the day so we recommend coming early morning or late night to enjoy the views with some peace! Plus, the rocks get pretty hot during the day.

2 – Take a Boat Tour Around the Island
Popular stops for boat tours are Kleftiko Bay and Sikia Cave – both in the Southwest of the island. The spots are said to be places where pirates would hide before looting ships that were passing by!
Kleftiko Bay is a must-visit spot when you come to Milos. If you are interested, you can also hike to Kleftiko Bay. (this is what we did)

Kleftiko Bay and Sarakiniko are easily the two most impressive spots we saw in all of Greece.
3 – Visit Plaka
Plaka is a white-washed mountain village with tons of shopping, and is the place to be at night for tourists. Around dinner time, this village lights up and the streets are full of tourists dining on the streets. Kind of like Lefkes in Paros or Chalki in Naxos. There are a lot of great dining opportunities here as well.
There’s a great viewpoint behind the church overlooking the sea. You should definitely visit Plaka when you come to Milos!
In all honesty, Plaka was not my favorite spot in Milos. It is clearly catered to tourists and you won’t see any Greeks eating or roaming the streets here. If you’re looking for an authentic Greek village to visit, you honestly won’t find any on Milos. We recommend Naxos for this! Naxos is loaded with authentic mountain villages.

4 – Papafragas Caves
These are beautiful caves, and don’t get as crowded as Sarakiniko and Kleftiko (which get VERY crowded during the day). When we came here we spent some time exploring from above, and noticed a walkway heading down to the beach. The walkway was gated off, but we found that if you walk to the side of the gate, there is a gap and the steps leading down to the beach weren’t that bad. A bunch of people immediately followed suit after us. Make sure you go down to the beach/water and swim around! The magnitude of the walls around you is amazing!
If you want to see a DEEP cave underground (no swimming though), head to Antiparos. The cave in Antiparos is easily one of the deepest in all of Europe.

Parking fills up on the side of the road here so come early or late in the day.
5 – Visit Platheina Beach
Platheina is a beautiful, sandy beach down the hill from the mountain village of Plaka. We highly recommend this beach. The beach is beautiful and secluded between two cliffs with plenty of room to layout and swim. There is a bar and restaurant on site here.
This is one of the top beaches on Milos and a must-visit when you come!

6 – Fyriplaka Beach
This is a wonderful, sandy beach, and possibly our favorite beach that we visited in Milos. The water is not very rocky and is pretty shallow for a long time making it perfect for walking out and enjoying the calm sea. Fyriplaka is also a must-visit when you come to Milos!

Tip ✨ The road to Fyriplaka can get crowded with parked cars during the day so you might have to park a bit up the hill. Don’t worry, there are no dangerous steps or ladders required to get down to this beach, unlike Tsigrado…
7 – Tsigrado Beach
OK so this beach is very cool. From the sand, you can swim to multiple crystal-clear coves that are lovely to explore. The only problem is … you need to take two ladders, as well as a slippery descent, to get down to the beach.
When you descend to the beach you are going down a very narrow ravine, so there really is only room for one person at a time. During the day this place is packed with people trying to get up and down from the beach, so we honestly wouldn’t recommend it unless you come at an off time.
However, once you get down to the beach, the swim around the coves is very cool. Be aware that the surface area of the beach is tiny, so you’re going to be packed into the beach with tons of other people here. This is not the place to come if you’re looking for some relaxing space on the beach!

8 – Alogomandra Beach
Come here to get away from the crowds. Alogomandra is close to Papafragas Caves in the North of Milos. This beach isn’t too popular with tourists but is still a beautiful spot to swim. There are great rocks to layout on above the water.
We came here to relax for an hour or so once we realized how crowded Sarakiniko gets during the day. We highly recommend visiting Sarakiniko at night to avoid the crowds and watch the magical sunset!

Here’s a map with pins of all the top sights we visited in Milos. As you can see, the far West and far East of the island are hard to visit, as paved roads have not penetrated these parts of the island yet. The road on the West to get near Kleftiko is very rocky and hilly, and you should probably have a 4×4.
Where to Stay in Milos
We recommend staying in the Northeast part of the island, ideally somewhere between Adamantas (the Port town) and Pollonia. You are going to need a car/atv to explore Milos, so you may as well stay outside the towns to get some peace and quiet, and appreciate the beautiful Northern Coast. Milos, especially the North, is not too big so everywhere you drive will be within 20 minutes or so. Plus, you won’t have to worry about parking like you would if you stay in Adamantas.
A lot of tourists stay in Pollonia (far Northeast) which is a very nice town that is not too crowded with a ton of restaurants and cafes.
Summary – Things to Do in Milos (Travel Guide)
Milos is a wonderful and amazing Greek island to visit. The beaches, coastline, and rock formations are unlike any other place we have seen on Planet Earth. It’s important to note that while Milos is not as crowded as Santorini or Mykonos, it is certainly not a “hidden gem” – like some other bloggers and youtubers are referring to Milos as. There are tons of tourists coming to Milos, and the top spots get very crowded. Milos is also not the place to visit for authentic Greek culture, as almost nobody lives on this island year-round (unlike Naxos).
