The BEST 1 Week in Greece Itineraries | 2025

Everyone dreams of traveling to Greece in the summer. Greece is paradise. Amazing food, beautiful beaches, sunny blue skies, and friendly people. If you haven’t been to Greece before, you might not realize how many options you have when traveling here. There are around 200 inhabited Greek islands, and over 6,000 islands in total. In this post, we will give you some itinerary ideas for 7 days in Greece. All of these itineraries start and end in Athens.

Here are some tools you’re going to want to use when you come to Greece. Planning a trip to Greece takes A LOT of time, as you have to coordinate ferries, hotels, tours, and rental cars. Our goal in this post is to make your planning easier!

One Week in Greece Ideas

None of these itineraries include Santorini or Mykonos because they are just way too crowded to visit in our opinion. The itinerary you choose will depend a lot on your travel style. Do you travel fast? (moving places every other day) Do you only like beach destinations? Are you going to rent a car? Do you care if a place is MOBBED with American tourists? Would you prefer to visit somewhere authentically Greek? All of these things will matter a lot when choosing where to go.

We’ve come up with 5 different 7 Day Greece Itineraries for your trip. Here they are…

1 – Fast Cyclades

We’re calling it “fast” because you’ll visit 3 islands in total with only 1 full day on each island. (this is a lot) You will need to move fast in this one, but if you want to see more stuff – this is what you gotta do.

Start the trip with a day in Athens to see the top spots (Acropolis, Olympic Stadium, Plaka, etc). After Athens, fly to Naxos. (You’re flying to the farthest island, then progressively ferrying back towards Athens) You probably want to stay near the airport. You can take the train into Athens on your first day very easily – Athens has a good metro.

Naxos is unique in that it’s a Greek island but you don’t really come here for the beaches. Naxos is the biggest island in the Cyclades and is known for it’s amazing food and authentic mountain villages. Spend your time enjoying the locally produced food and products on Naxos, because once you leave here it will be mainly very touristy beaches and such.

**We recommend staying at ‘Elaiolithos Experience’ when you come to Naxos. To this day, this is the best hotel experience we’ve ever had. You can read about our experience here if you’re interested**

From Naxos, it’s a 45 minute ferry ride to Paros. Paros is much smaller than Naxos and has some beautiful blue beaches to visit (the highlight here is Paros Park). The vibes are very different in Paros. You’ll no doubt be dining on the water in Naoussa and catching an unbelievable sunset!

From Paros, take the fast ferry to Milos (2 hours). Milos is blowing up on social media now for its unique and stunning beaches. Visit Sarakiniko for some amazing cliff-jumping, as well as Kleftiko Bay for some swimming in one of the coolest bays we’ve ever seen in our lives. From Milos, take the ferry back to Athens, and hop on the metro all the way back to the airport to fly home.

2 – Relaxed Cyclades – 7 Day Greece Itinerary

If I only had a week in Greece, this would be my perfect itinerary. The difference between this and the ‘Fast Cyclades‘ above is that this one cuts out Paros, and gives you an extra day in Milos. We think Milos is the most impressive Greek island that we have ever seen (especially if you like amazing beaches), so we think it’s worth it to have an extra day here.

3 – Dodecanese Islands

The Dodecanese Islands are much less visited by Americans. The Cyclades are loaded with Americans, but you’d be hard-pressed to find an American on Rhodes or Kos. (mainly British Chaps in our experience)

Rhodes is a huge island itself and could easily be explored for a week. There is tons of history to see here, as well as tons of beautiful beaches. We really enjoyed our time in Rhodes and would highly recommend people come here!

Kos is smaller and quieter than Rhodes. There’s still a ton of history here (Hippocrates – Father of Modern Medicine is from here). Kos is only a 20 minute ferry from Turkey (Bodrum) so you could easily take the ferry to Turkey for a day-trip if you wanted to.

The ferry from Rhodes to Kos is very easy and comfortable. Another option would be to do Rhodes and Crete! Crete is super-famous in history (birthplace of Zeus, etc.) Kind of like Rhodes, you could easily spend a whole week in Crete. (The only reason we don’t recommend Crete is because we haven’t been there ourselves)

Another another option would be to add Astypalaia after Kos. Asty is the most remote and peaceful island we have ever seen. If you want authentic small-island Greek culture – this is your spot. Riding a motorbike on Asty might be the most peaceful thing we’ve ever done in our lives. (Things to Do in Astypalaia) We stopped in Asty on our trip from Kos to Naxos, because Asty is right in the middle of the two islands.

4 – Northern Greece & Ionian Islands

This one is a really good option if you want to avoid the crowds in the Cyclades in the summer and see the more authentic side of Greece. You’ll get a good mixture of mountains and beach in this as well.

This itinerary involves you renting a car in Athens and driving up North to visit the Meteora monasteries. From Meteora, you’ll head to the only Greek island accessible by car (Lefkada). From Lefkada, you’ll bring your car on the ferry to Zakynthos. From Zakynthos you’ll head back to Athens.

The Ionian Islands are known for having the nicest beaches in all of Greece. (White-sand, baby-blue water) They are not mountainous like some of the other islands chains are, but if all you want is beautiful beaches and clear sun – you can’t go wrong the Ionian Islands!

5 – Northern Greece Road Trip

This one is all inland, and all authentic Greece. Rent a car in Athens and head up to Meteora. After Meteora, head to the amazing Vikos Gorge, which is easily one of the most underrated destinations in the whole world in my opinion. One of your days at Vikos will be spent hiking the Gorge, and the other can be spent rafting down the Voidomatis River, or exploring the beautiful area.

Meteora and Vikos give you a completely different look into Greece than most tourists get when they travel to the Cyclades. The Zagori Region of Greece (where Vikos Gorge is located) is extremely underrated as a travel destination and is often referred to online as the “Grand Canyon of Greece”. You should definitely visit Vikos at some point during your trip to Greece if you like hiking!

Summary – 7 Day Greece Itinerary Ideas

We spent over a month traveling around Greece in the Dodecanese Islands, Cyclades Islands, Athens, and Northern Greece. We have personally been to every place in these itineraries, and would be more than happy to help you plan your trip to Greece. One week is not a lot for this amazing country – but you gotta work with what you have!

Another place that we would highly recommend in this area of the world is Turkey. Turkey has stunning beaches, amazing food, … and it’s half the price of Greece! Plus, the cultural aspect to visiting Turkey will hit a lot more than Greece, as you are probably coming from the US/Canada/Europe if you’re reading this guide.
