Milos is loaded with impressive beaches. Whether you are looking to relax at a calm sandy beach, lay out on massive rocks, jump off cliffs, or explore coves and caves – Milos has it all. We would say Milos is the best Greek island to explore beautiful coastal beaches, no matter what you’re looking for. While Milos is a definitely not the Greek island to visit to explore authentic Greek culture (we recommend Naxos!), Milos should definitely be visited if you like swimming in the sea, discovering coves and caves, and cliff jumping. We’ve never seen an island with such impressive coastal places like Milos has. ✨
Something to consider when you come to Milos is that some of the top spots get VERY crowded. All the tourists want to visit the same top spots, and they all show up around 10 AM – 4 PM ish. You definitely want to consider this when planning your Milos itinerary as crowds at some of these spots will ruin the experience – there’s just not enough space for everyone, especially in high season.

Quick Info on Best Milos Beaches
In a rush and want the quick answer? Here’s quick information you need to know about Milos’ top beaches. ⬇️
Beach Name | Good For |
Fyriplaka | Large, sandy beach, in between two massive cliffs. 5 minute walk down the hill to get here. Shallow and sandy water to swim in. Calm bay. Overall best beach in Milos. |
Platheina | Smaller than Fyriplaka. Beautiful destination. Great for swimming. Smaller version of Fyriplaka. |
Tsigrado | Small beach to sit on. Beautiful coves to explore. Very hard to get down (2 ladders). See below for more. |
Sarakiniko | The spot for cliff jumping. Number 1 spot on Milos. Not really a “beach” though. |
Achivadolimni | Calm, relaxing, not popular beach near the port. Great for kids and families. |
Papafragas | Tiny beach, great spot to explore coves. Not a place to relax, but a great spot to swim. Good for swimming in coves and caves. |
Alogomandra | Calm, secluded, rocky beach to chill on. Great big rocks to relax on as well. |

The Best Beaches in Milos
Here are our top 8 beaches on the island of Milos. We would say the first 6 beaches on the list are must-visits when you come to Milos.
1 – Fyriplaka Beach
This is the number 1 real beach you need to visit when you come to Milos. About 15 minutes South of the Chora (port town), you’ll find this large sandy beach at the bottom of a HUGE hill. You can usually park pretty far down the hill and cut down on your walking, but if crowded you may have to park all the way at the top and walk down. (about 10 minutes) The ground is sand here and the beach starts off shallow so great for kids and families as well as anyone else. If you go out far enough, you can find great water for swimming as well. The way Fyriplaka is situated between two massive cliffs makes this place a picturesque beach on Milos!

2 – Platheina Beach
Platheina is a medium-sized beach down the hill from Plaka, the picturesque white-washed Greek village that you will surely visit during your time in Milos. The beach at Platheina is a bit rocky at first, but once you get in the water it becomes sandy and a joy to swim in. The seas are calm here, and the views are incredible. Platheina is a must-visit for anyone coming to Milos.

3 – Tsigrado Beach
Getting to Tsigrado is a challenge. It’s only a few minutes from Fyriplaka, but about 100 times harder to get down to. This is because you have to take 2 completely vertical ladders to get down to the beach, as well as descend through a slippery ravine. The trip is definitely doable for most, but this place gets very crowded during the day, so we honestly wouldn’t recommend it. If you’re feeling adventurous and are willing to make the climb down (and back up) then make sure to come here before 10 AM or after 4 PM.

4 – Sarakiniko Beach
Sarakiniko is the coolest spot to visit in Milos. However, it’s not really a beach so we put it at number 4 on the list. When you come to Sarakiniko you will feel as if you’ve landed on the moon. Smooth rock formations for ages make for perfect cliff-jumping and cave exploring.
🚗 We recommend to rent a car through Discover Cars. Book your rental car here!

Just like Tsigrado, this place gets VERY crowded during the day, so we recommend coming before 9 AM or after 4 PM. We came to Sarakiniko for sunset twice during our time in Milos and it was pure heaven. There’s hardly any people here and the sunset is truly beautiful.

5 – Kleftiko Bay
This one also isn’t a “beach”, but it’s just too beautiful not to mention. Kleftiko is a must when you come to Milos. It is said that pirates used these coves to hide and then attack passing ships. This is probably one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen in the world. You can spend hours swimming through the “bridges”, caves, and coves. Make sure to bring goggles as the water is crystal-clear and perfect for snorkeling!

To go to Kleftiko, most people book a boat tour leaving from Adamantas (port town). We hate tours and big groups of people, so we chose to do a hike. If you’re interested, you can check out our complete guide to hiking to Kleftiko.
Tip ✨ We recommend you reserve your rental car for Milos early, especially if you are coming in high season. We always book with Discover Cars and have never had any problems.
6 – Papafragas
These caves are absolutely wonderful to visit. The “beach” is small here, but the coves are absolutely wonderful to swim in. You have to park on the side of the road here, so try to come outside of peak hours! The swimming area between the cliffs is narrow which makes for a very special swimming experience! Papafragas is definitely a must when you come to Milos.

7 – Alogomandra
Not too many tourists come here, so this is a good option during the day if you’re looking to get away from the crowds! There are big rocks to lay out on, and tons of spots to swim! We came here during the day while we were waiting for Sarakinko to clear out and had a good experience swimming in the clear water.

8 – Achivadolimni
Beautiful, not too crowded beach 10 minutes South of Adamantas. Great for families as there’s plenty of sand and not too many people. Not worth your time unless you’re looking for a relaxing day without too many people. The other beaches on Milos are much more impressive.

Where to Stay in Milos
Most people stay in the Chora (Milos Port aka Adamantas), or Pollonia. As you can tell from the map, both of these towns are in the Northeast part of the island. Adamantas (port town) is a bit more centrally located, but we would recommend staying closer to Pollonia. It’s more peaceful up here, especially since you’ll have your own transportation when you come to the island anyway.
